Over the past few decades, marked improvements in non-surgical endodontic techniques have sent success rates soaring.

Such success has reduced the incidence of surgery; today dentist initially treat most patients non-surgically and we have finally passed the era in which small lesions were treated non-surgically and large lesions routinely managed surgically.

A more thorough understanding of pulpal and periradicular diseases process indicates that the keys to success in endodontic procedures are the debridement and neutralization of any tissue, bacteria, or inflammatory products within the root canal system. All components of treatment – diagnosis, access, anatomy, cleaning, disinfection, shaping, obturation, and restoration are essential, and these components must be integrated into a predictive, treatment oriented approach to case management.

Being able to practice using a variety of techniques and not being married to a single approach in every case greatly enhances one’s capabilities. This is basis of good prognosis - the result of skills, knowledge and self-confidence.
